Merchant receiving accounts and banks
A receiving account is where a merchant is to be paid. A merchant's Goopay account ranks first and its bank account second; a merchant with neither is not payable, and its stores are not offered to tenants.
Overview#
A merchant records its bank account under Receiving Account in the Finance section, or during onboarding. A merchant whose wallet is connected to Goopay has that Goopay account as its receiving account, and the bank account is the fallback. Today this ranking decides whether the merchant is payable and what the Receiving Accounts page tells the merchant; no payout reads the bank account directly. Whether a merchant has a receiving account of either kind decides whether tenants can see and order from its stores. The bank account also serves as the list against which drivers' bank-QR scans are checked.
Fields#
A bank receiving account has four fields, all required:
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Method | Bank Transfer, Wallet or B2B Direct. |
| Bank | The bank, chosen from the bank list for the merchant's country. |
| Account number | The account at that bank. The list shows only its last four digits. |
| Account name | The account holder's name. |
The merchant is always the signed-in user's own merchant; it is never chosen on the form. Branch, address and city are not recorded.
The bank list#
- The list holds Vietnamese banks under their legal Vietnamese names, each with its short code, shown as name and code, for example "Ngoại thương Việt Nam (VCB)".
- Only banks of the merchant's country, and only active ones, are offered for a new choice.
- A bank that has been deactivated still shows as selected when an account that uses it is edited.
- A bank removed from the list stays on the receiving accounts that already use it.
- Each bank also carries its six-digit VietQR (Napas) identifier, which is what a bank QR code contains.
Rules#
Which account counts#
| Merchant has | Receiving account |
|---|---|
| A Goopay account on an active wallet | The Goopay account, even when a bank account is also recorded |
| A valid bank account only | The bank account |
| Neither | None: the merchant is not payable |
- A Goopay account counts only when the provider setup is active and the wallet is active and not retired.
- A bank account counts when it has a method, an account number and an account name.
- When the Goopay account applies, the Receiving Accounts page says "Payouts go to your Goopay account", names the account, and adds "Bank accounts below are a fallback."
When the merchant becomes visible#
- Saving a valid bank account, or connecting a Goopay account, marks the merchant as having a receiving account, so tenants can see its stores.
- Deleting the last valid bank account of a merchant with no Goopay account removes the mark, and its stores are hidden from tenants again. The same happens when a merchant's Goopay account stops counting — its provider setup is suspended or retired, or its wallet deactivated — and it has no valid bank account.
- Saving the receiving-account step in onboarding updates the merchant's existing account rather than adding a second one.
- Store visibility as a whole is described on Which stores tenants and drivers can see.
Bank-QR check#
When a driver pays by scanning a merchant's bank QR code, the account in the QR is checked against the merchant's bank receiving accounts:
- Only accounts with the method Bank Transfer or B2B Direct take part.
- The account number must match, ignoring case and surrounding spaces.
- When the QR names a bank, it may name it by its VietQR identifier or by its short code; it must be the same bank as the matching account.
- A bank identifier the platform does not recognise is refused; it is never treated as "any bank".
- A QR that fails the check is refused as not whitelisted.
A merchant paid only through its Goopay account has no bank account to match, so bank-QR payment to it needs a bank account recorded as well.
