Balance and runway

Reference

The Balance & Runway report answers "when do we run out?": it rebuilds your wallet balance day by day, sets it against what you owe on credit, and estimates the date your cash, your platform credit and your B2B-Direct credit would each reach zero.

Overview#

Every wallet balance change is kept as a permanent ledger entry, so the report can rebuild the balance at any past date exactly rather than approximately. It then projects the balance forward from your recent spending. Credit is counted from the two credit ledgers — the platform credit line on your wallet and any B2B-Direct credit lines merchants have granted you — because spending on credit writes no cash entry at all. The report is under Balance & Runway in the Reports section of the sidebar. It is for tenants: a merchant wallet holds money received, not money spent down, so merchant users cannot open it. The tenant dashboard shows the same cash balance and the same cash runway sentence in a small widget.

What the page shows#

PartWhat it shows
HeadlineThe cash balance at the end of the selected period, labelled as at that date for a past period, with its change against the start of the period. For a period ending today it equals the sum of your wallets' current balances.
Net positionCash minus platform credit owed minus B2B-Direct credit owed, shown beside the headline when you have credit that owes money or moved in the period. Viewers who may not see B2B-Direct credit get "Net position (platform credit)", without the B2B term.
Balance over timeA chart of the balance: measured history as a solid line up to a labelled Today boundary, the projection as a dashed line after it, with an uncertainty band around the projection that never goes below zero. When you have credit, a second measured line shows the net position, and a second dashed line projects the balance including platform credit. B2B-Direct credit never gets a line of its own.
Runway projectionThe three runway rows described below.
Balance movementPer period: Money in, Money out, Net change and Closing balance.
Credit movementPer period: Credit drawn, Credit repaid, Corrections & write-offs, Owed: platform credit, Owed: B2B-Direct and the net position. Shown only when you have credit. For viewers who may see B2B-Direct credit, the owed column headers link to the Credit Exposure report.

The page has no Excel export; the exportable record of a wallet is the Wallet Statement, see Finance reports.

Calculations#

Rebuilt balance#

  • The balance at the start of the period includes every entry before it, so the line starts at the real balance, not at zero.
  • A day with no entries keeps the previous day's balance; a quiet day never shows as a drop to zero.
  • Periods of up to 31 days are shown by day; longer periods by month, each month point being that month's closing balance. Days follow Vietnam time (ICT).
  • The balance is the wallet balance before holds: money held for an unfinished order is not money spent.
  • What you owe on each credit plane is rebuilt the same way, from its opening amount plus each period's entries, across all your wallets including retired ones.

Runway rows#

RowStarts fromRuns down at
Cash balanceToday's cash balance. The average daily net decline of the cash balance over your recent history.
Cash plus platform creditToday's cash plus today's platform credit headroom. The cash part is before holds; the credit part is after them, and the row says so.The average daily decline of cash minus platform credit owed.
B2B-Direct creditToday's headroom on your active B2B-Direct lines — limit minus outstanding minus held — each counted at zero if at or over its limit. The average daily rise in what you owe on B2B-Direct credit.
  • Recent history is the last 30 days, or fewer when the history is shorter; the sentence under each date names the number of days used.
  • The burn is the net decline, not gross spending: a tenant who tops up more than it spends has a rising balance and gets no depletion date.
  • The credit rows burn on spending and repayments only, and only on lines that can still be drawn on: active platform lines on an active wallet, and active B2B-Direct accounts. Corrections and write-offs change what is owed and appear in the credit table, but are left out of the burn.
  • The cash-plus-platform-credit row uses the longer of the cash history and the platform credit history. The B2B-Direct row uses the history of the lines active today.
  • B2B-Direct headroom is never added to cash: it can only be spent at the merchant that granted each line, and the row says so. There is no single "everything" date.
  • Credit limits and headroom are today's figures. They are never rebuilt for past dates.
  • The B2B-Direct row and the B2B figures appear only to viewers who may see B2B-Direct credit accounts.
  • A B2B-Direct line's contract expiry date does not change its headroom.

Runway states#

Each row shows exactly one of these:

StateWhenWhat the row says
ProjectedThe figure is falling and there is enough history."Estimated N days until zero, around [date]", followed by the basis: an estimate at the average decline of the last N days, with the daily amount.
No depletion projectedThe figure did not fall over the recent history. No date, and no forecast is drawn.
Projection unavailableFewer than 14 days of history.Names how many days exist and how many are needed.
Already at zeroThe cash balance is zero or below. No date.
No credit lineNo active line on that credit plane.A plain sentence saying so.
No credit leftA line exists but has no headroom today: at or over its limit, or blocked.A sentence about the credit line, never "balance is already at zero".
Beyond the projectable rangeThe decline is so small the zero date is beyond any date the system can show.No date.

A projected date is always labelled an estimate and always names its basis; it is never shown as a bare date.

The report needs permission to view wallets; merchant users are refused even when they hold it. A tenant user sees only its own organisation's wallets and credit.
