Vehicle performance figures
A vehicle performance record covers the driving between two refuels of one vehicle: how far it went, by odometer and by GPS, and how much fuel it used per 100 km against its consumption norm.
Overview#
Each record belongs to one completed refuel of a vehicle and covers the period since that vehicle's previous record. It holds two distances, one from the odometer readings and one from the GPS track, and the consumption each gives. One of the two is the final source used in lists and charts. The record also keeps the consumption norm that was in force at the time, so old periods are compared with the norm of their own date. Records are built from data already stored on the platform; they never call the GPS provider.
Fields#
| Field (UI label) | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Refuel order | The completed refuel that closes the period |
| Driver | The refuel's driver |
| Period (start, end) | From the previous record's refuel time to this refuel's time. The vehicle's first record has no start |
| Odometer start, Odometer end | The odometer at the previous refuel and at this one |
| ODO distance (km) | Odometer end minus odometer start |
| GPS distance (km) | The length of the GPS track in the period |
| Fuel volume | Litres filled at this refuel |
| ODO consumption (L/100km), GPS consumption (L/100km) | Fuel volume per 100 km of each distance |
| Final source | GPS or Odometer: the distance the record uses |
| Final consumption | The consumption of the final source |
| Consumption norm | The vehicle's norm in L/100km on the refuel date |
| Overridden | Whether someone chose the final source by hand |
| Provenance | Whether the platform computed the record or it was carried over from the previous system |
Calculations#
Distances#
- Odometer distance uses the odometer reading recorded with each refuel. It is empty when either reading is missing, when this is the vehicle's first record, or when the reading went down.
- GPS distance adds up the straight-line distance between consecutive GPS points stored for the vehicle in the period. It is empty on the vehicle's first record and when the period has fewer than two GPS points, for example for vehicles whose provider sends distance only. When none of the vehicle's records has a GPS distance, the History chart says "No GPS log for this period — GPS distance unavailable". See GPS providers.
Consumption#
- Consumption (L/100km) = fuel volume ÷ (distance ÷ 100). It is empty when the distance or the fuel volume is zero or missing.
- The fuel counted is the volume filled at the refuel that closes the period.
Final source#
- By default the final source is GPS when the record has a GPS distance, otherwise Odometer. With neither, the record has no final distance or consumption.
Consumption norm#
- The norm is the vehicle's consumption norm in force on the refuel date. A vehicle with no norm history uses its Avg consumption setting instead.
- The norm is empty when the vehicle's norm history has a gap on that date, when the value is zero, or when there is no history and Avg consumption is not set.
Override and recalculation#
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Override | Chooses GPS or Odometer as the final source. Only a source that has a distance can be chosen, and no figure can be typed in by hand |
| Recalc | Rebuilds the record's distances, consumptions and norm from the data stored now, for example after late GPS data arrives |
- An override survives a recalculation: the raw figures refresh, but the chosen final source stays.
- An override does not change the stored norm.
- Changing one record never changes the vehicle's other records.
- Records carried over from the previous system cannot be overridden or recalculated, and records whose refuel is no longer completed cannot be recalculated.
- Every override and recalculation that changes something is kept in the record's Audit logs, with who, when, and the before and after values; one that changes nothing leaves no entry.
- A recent refuel may not have a record yet.

Fleet consumption#
On the Vehicle Performance list, the fleet chart compares each vehicle's pooled consumption with its norm for the selected period:
- Pooled consumption = total fuel ÷ total final distance × 100, over the vehicle's records that have a final distance.
- The vehicle's norm for the chart is the average of its records' norms. When none of them has one, it is the norm in force on the last day of the selected period, or today for the current month or all time.
- A vehicle above its norm is flagged in red; there is no tolerance band.
- The chart shows at most 25 vehicles, worst first, with "Showing N of M vehicles (worst first)." when there are more. Vehicles with no norm show as grey, unflagged bars, and vehicles with no final distance in the period are left off; both counts are shown under the chart.
- The period selects records by their refuel time (Period end).
- The list opens on the current month so far; All time removes the period.
