Connect a GPS provider
Connect your company to the GPS tracking company your vehicles use, so the platform can fetch their positions and distance.
Before you start#
- You need to be a Tenant Owner or Tenant Admin to add, change or remove a connection.
- Your company's subscription plan must include live GPS; otherwise the menu entry is hidden.
- Have the login details your GPS provider gave you: depending on the provider, a username, password, API key and/or API token.
- Have each vehicle's tracker ID at that provider.
- Open GPS Provider in the menu. It shows the GPS Providers list for your company.
Steps#
Add a connection#
- Click Add GPS provider.
- Choose the provider in GPS provider. The form then shows only the credential fields that provider needs, with its Auth type.
- Fill in every credential field shown (Username, Password, API key, API token, depending on the provider). All shown fields are required. For ADA, the last field is Test vehicle ID: a tracker ID the connection test can query.
- With every field filled in, click Test Connection to check the credentials before saving. The result shows Connected or Connection failed with the provider's message.
- Click Save. The connection is saved even if the test fails; the platform tests it again and shows "GPS provider configuration saved." The result appears on the edit form as Last tested.
Link your vehicles#
- For each vehicle, open its edit form. In the Odometer & GPS section, set GPS source to the provider and enter the tracker's ID at the provider in GPS external ID.
Only active vehicles with a GPS external ID are synced; see GPS sync status.
Change, pause or remove a connection#
- To change credentials, click Edit on the row. A credential left blank keeps its saved value; click Change to replace one. The provider cannot be changed: remove the connection and add a new one instead.
- To pause syncing without losing the credentials, turn off Sync enabled on the edit form and click Save. "Pausing keeps the credentials; no data is fetched until resumed." A paused connection shows Paused on the list, and the list's Status filter can show only paused ones.
- To remove a connection, click Remove and confirm with Yes, remove. Location sync from that provider stops.
What happens next#
- The connection is synced every five minutes; its first sync fetches the last hour.
- The list shows each connection's status, Last sync and Records. What the statuses mean: GPS sync status.
- What each provider sends (route, distance, temperature, fuel): GPS providers.
Rules and limits#
- A company can connect several providers, but only one connection per provider.
- A removed connection frees the provider, so it can be added again.
- Tenant Supervisors and Tenant Accountants cannot see GPS connections; platform staff can view them but not change them.
If something goes wrong#
| Message | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Required for the selected provider." | A credential the provider needs is empty | Fill in the field |
| "This tenant already has a configuration for that provider. Edit the existing one instead." | The provider is already connected | Edit the existing row |
| "This tenant already has a paused configuration for that provider. Open it from the list and turn on Sync enabled to resume it." | The provider is connected but paused | Edit it and turn on Sync enabled |
| Connection failed after Test Connection | Wrong credentials, or the provider is unreachable or not set up on the platform | Check the credentials with the provider; if they are right, contact platform support |
| The connection shows Error or Degraded later | Sync problems | See GPS sync status |
