GPS providers

Reference

The platform reads your vehicles' GPS data from the tracking company you already use. What you see for a vehicle — a route on the map, distance, temperature or fuel — depends on what that provider sends.

Overview#

The platform connects to twelve GPS providers used in Vietnam. A company connects one or more of them and links each vehicle to its tracker; see Connect a GPS provider. The platform fetches new data from each connected provider on a schedule; see GPS sync status. Providers differ in what they send: most send route points (position, speed and time, drawn as the route on the map), some send only the distance driven, and two also send temperature and fuel sensor readings.

What the data is used for#

DataWhere you see it
Route pointsThe vehicle's route for a day, the fleet map and the GPS logs list. See GPS logs and daily summaries
Odometer on each pointThe Distance (km) column of the GPS logs list, worked out from the day's highest and lowest reading. For providers without it, that column is empty
Distance drivenAdded to the vehicle's estimated odometer since its last verified reading. See Vehicle odometer
Temperature, fuel levelThe temperature and fuel charts for a vehicle's day, and the daily min/max on the GPS logs list

A provider that sends only distance never produces a route, map position or daily GPS summary for its vehicles.

Provider notes#

  • VietMap: temperature comes from up to two temperature sensors and fuel level from the fuel sensor, stored as the tracker reports them. Readings appear only for trackers fitted with those sensors.
  • EupFin: syncing is paused until the platform team sets up the provider's new service address, so EupFin vehicles receive no new data until then. Once it resumes, temperature comes from up to two sensors and fuel level from the tracker's fuel reading.
  • Eposi: the platform stores the end of each trip as one point, with the trip's top speed, so the route shows trip ends rather than a continuous track.
  • VinhHien: the provider returns only the latest position of every vehicle on the account, matched by plate. The route is as detailed as the sync schedule, and positions during a sync outage cannot be fetched later.
  • TechGlobal: sends positions only, with no odometer or distance.
  • MPIS and VietGlobal: no route history is available from these providers.

Providers not available#

Dinh Vi So and HTG are known to the platform but cannot be connected: Dinh Vi So uses a connection type the platform does not support, and HTG is not available yet.
